week 11

mar 12 to mar 18

Welcome to week eleven.

Be a Maker:

This week I have been making many, many little shapes and sewing together the Mischief quilt. THis is by Karen the DIY Addict who you can find HERE and she has 3 different kit options for both this quilt and her other amazing EPP pattern Obsession. I highly recommend her patterns and templates, they are high quality and very well presented. If you are new to EPP I recommend getting online at YouTube and finding some videos with different techniques and styles before you jump into these quilts. Practicing with hexagon quilts is a great way to practice EPP and eat up your scrap stash.

This is the last photo of this project I am posting for a bit. I have turned this pattern in on itself a little and played with the design in a way I hope is unique and beautiful.

Speaking of hexagon quilts, I am in the second #pickyourthemehexieswap on IG and have been making these little pieces like a mad woman. Originally I signed up for 4 slots at 20 hexies each, but I took on 4 more slots, so will be shipping 160 total at the end of the month. The first 100 went smooth with no issues but have been rather sleep deprived of late, so the 6th set had a major oops...

Yup, those papers are on the right side of the fabric, which is the wrong side for EPP. I cut all 20 like that and realized my mistake when I picked up the first one to baste it. Not to worry, they got switched around, but I take this as a valuable lesson in the effects of sleep deprivation..

I think I managed to knit another 10 rows of my fade shawl and am back to the lace section. This should be interesting to do sine I am off pattern at this point and have to do my own math for the stitch counts.

Use the Stash:

All the fabrics for the Mischief quilt and the hexies came from my stash. I am using Alison Glass Handcrafted 1 and 2 for Mischief with a white Kona background.

Practice my Craft:

Knitting and EPP this week.

Also this week:

Now, I have an issue with hobbies. Once I become attached to something I begin collecting and building a stash. First reading, then quilting, then knitting, and finally my most recent obsession, planning. The scope of this last one includes stickers, washi or masking tape, planners and inserts, and all manner of pens/pencils and accessories. IT IS OUT OF CONTROL and I finally just had to delete all my credit card info from my PayPal account and stop. Before I did that, however, I did buy a kikki.K planner.

Why?, you ask... well, there's no good reason. I can say that this is not a spiral bound planner like all the others I own. This is a ring bound book, made from real leather so meant to last, and the inserts are task/goal orientated and not calendar. Plus, I have print files for inserts so I potentially never have to buy the brand inserts and can use this planner forever.

I did splurge on the pen pal kit and a matching gel pen, but I totally put back the other 6 items that were in my cart at the last minute and saved myself a bundle. I got one of my bigger tote purses out of my closet, which is actually perfect for Spring (even faux spring) so I can start carrying a notepad and pencil to start sketching again. I want to get into sticker design and reopen my shop with digital downloads and sticker kits.

Maybe then I can justify spending money on this hobby like I do the other two... maybe.

Later this month:

Sarah Fielke is doing a BOM called Down the Rabbit Hole. The this month's instructions will be released at the end of the month.

I purchased the pattern for my #seaminiquiltswap which I found on Craftsy. More to come for that this month.

On to week twelve...
